Jean Hoerni

Jean Hoerni developed the planar process to solve reliability problems of the mesa transistor, thereby revolutionizing semiconductor manufacturing. this development was also called the planar process. He was focused on getting his devices into prduction. Company did not approach at tht time, because they were concerned bout many things the planar was made of. named after the flat topography of the finished device, would protect these junctions. The oxide layer was indeed found to protect the junctions, as he had predicted     Planar devices also  have better electrical characteristics - particularly far lower leakage currents, which is critical in computer logic designs.Fairchild introduced the 2N1613 planar transistor commercially in April 1960.One historian has called it "the most important innovation in the history of the semiconductor industry."
